GPS & GNSS: definitions

GPS (Global Positioning System): A dedicated satellite navigation system, developed and operated by the US government. It provides worldwide positioning, navigation and synchronization services.

GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System): This is a generic term for all satellite navigation systems. This includes GPS, but also other systems such as GLONASS (Russia), Galileo (European Union) and BeiDou (China).
