What is AIS and S-AIS?
AIS (Automatic Identification System) is a standardized data exchange system between ships, allowing those equipped with transponders to send their position, heading, and speed, thus enhancing maritime safety and facilitating traffic management.
S-AIS (Satellite AIS) extends this coverage via satellites to ensure global monitoring, including beyond the coasts, and provides essential data for various sectors, including defense and insurance, even in the most isolated areas.
How does S-AIS technology work?
Ships equipped with AIS transponders regularly transmit their navigation data. The Kinéis nanosatellites in low orbit, equipped with ultra-powerful antennas, capture these signals anywhere on Earth.
The data is then pre-processed onboard to ensure its integrity and accuracy, before being sent back to one of our 20 ground stations.
Our mission center then processes this data thoroughly before transmitting it to users, such as maritime authorities or fleet operators, who access it to optimize their operations using the key information received.
