How S-AIS works?
Step 1: AIS data transmissions
Vessels fitted with AIS transponders transmit data on their position, speed, course and other relevant information at regular intervals. This data is generally transmitted via VHF antennas.
Step 2: Satellite reception
Kinéis satellites, equipped with receivers specially designed to pick up AIS signals, intercept these AIS transmissions from space. Thanks to their orbital position, they can cover vast maritime areas, including remote zones where land stations cannot detect the signals.
Step 3: Data processing
Once the satellites receive AIS data, it is processed on board to ensure its integrity and reliability. Kinéis satellites use advanced algorithms to filter data, reduce interference and eliminate potential errors.
Step4: Transmission to control centers
After processing, data is retransmitted to ground receiving stations, where it is collected, analyzed and integrated into a database. This information is updated regularly, giving users access to precise data on ship position and movement.
User access
Processed AIS data is then made available to users via a dedicated interface. This can include maritime industry players, port authorities, security services, and other organizations needing to track maritime movements for safety, logistical or regulatory reasons.
Advanced functionalities
In addition to providing classic AIS data, Kinéis satellites integrate advanced functionalities, such as anti-spoofing detection, thanks to precise time and frequency measurements, and optimized performance in dense areas thanks to multi-antenna technology.
